How it works
xEllerator proposes a mentor for each mentee in your organisation. Each proposed match comes with a written reason, taken from what both people wrote about themselves, and HR, the mentee and the mentor each decide on it.
How a match is made
With xEllerator, participants' strengths, what they want to develop and where their goals and interests align all count towards a match. It then recommends compatible matches, with enough context for both people to see why the connection makes sense.
How it works in practice
When participants join, they answer a few open-ended questions about their experience and goals. Amara wants to step into her first leadership role and strengthen her stakeholder presentations. Ingrid coaches public speaking. xEllerator reads those answers, recognises the fit and recommends the pairing with a match score of 84.
A score you can understand
Every match card explains its reasoning:
- Compatibility (62%) covers how well the pair works together, broken out across five factors.
- Goal fit (38%) reflects whether the mentor has done what the mentee wants to do. Ingrid scores 91 because she has.
- Equity uplift (up to +12) adds weight where a mentee would benefit from extra support and the mentor is well placed to give it. It is only applied when the pair already fits well enough on its own, so it never forces a poor match. Here it adds 6 points.
Some rules are checked before scoring. The mentor must be at least one level more senior, and their availability must overlap. Dealbreakers are honoured. No mentor gets more mentees than the capacity they set.
How a programme runs
- Invite your people.HR sends invitations by email, and participants set up their own profiles.
- Participants share their goals.A short onboarding asks about goals and working style in their own words, plus the skills they want to grow from one shared list. These answers power the matching.
- Run the matching.xEllerator scores every eligible pairing and proposes matches, each with a clear, written explanation of why it fits.
- HR reviews before anything is shared.HR adds the judgement only people can bring, checking for reporting lines, prior relationships or conflicts of interest. Proposed matches are released or held back with a reason. Rankings stay untouched, and every hold is logged and reported by group.
- Mentees choose first. The mentee reviews the proposed match first, and the mentor sees it only after the mentee accepts. If either person declines, the mentee is included in the next round and is not proposed the same mentor again.
- The partnership begins.Pairs track goals, milestones and sessions in the app. Short check-ins after the third session, or at the programme's midpoint if that comes first, and again at the end show how each match is going, and mentees share whether they would recommend the programme.
The Equity page
The Equity page breaks down mentee outcomes by gender identity, career stage and field, and compares each group against your programme-wide results across 29 measures, including:
- Access: who gets matched and how quickly
- Engagement: how often pairs meet
- Experience: how mentees rate their match experience
- Sponsorship: the introductions, stretch opportunities and advocacy mentees receive
- Outcomes: what has changed by the end of the programme
A group is shown only if it had five people or more when its figures were worked out. A cell that is well below the figure for everyone gets a red mark and a plain sentence in the "Needs a look" list, and is written to the activity log the first time it appears. Answers about promotions, moves and confidence are only counted when the person ticked the box that allows it.
